2025 Tournament Winners
Marion boys and Wilson girls take top honors in the 39th Annual Boys & Girls Clubs Carolina Classic Tournament presented by South Carolina Federal Credit Union Dec. 27-29 at West Florence High School.
In the girls’ division, with the 2024 champions Trinity Collegiate unable to attend, the Wilson Lady Tigers looked to dominate the bracket with a 66-25 victory over host-team West Florence. South Florence squeaked by AC Flora 54-44 to set up a cross-town rivalry for the championship. In a nail-biter, action went to the final seconds as the game was tied 54-54 in the final minute. Wilson drove down the court to score 2. The Lady Bruins responded as the seconds clicked down with a shot that bounced out of the bucket as the clock reached 0. Wilson took its first girls’ division title 56-54.
In the boys’ division, returning champions Atlantic Collegiate fell in the first round of play to first-time entrant Gaffney 73-58. With Mullins defeating South Florence 62-44 and Marion defeating West Florence 75-59, the stage was set for a fantastic rivalry Saturday. South Florence overpowered West Florence 63-52. Marion and Mullins had a much tighter game that came down to the final minute of play with the Swamp Foxes taking the W 60-57 to head to the championship game. Gaffney defeated Powdersville 60-58 to take them to the final matchup. Marion easily took the win over Gaffney 57-39 to earn just their second tournament title. The Swamp Foxes first title came back in 1994 with MVP Terrell McKelvy.

In every community, boys and girls are left to find their own recreation and companionship in the streets. An increasing number of children are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to know that someone cares about them. Boys & Girls Clubs offer that and more. Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence. Boys & Girls Clubs are a safe place to learn and grow – all while having fun. We truly are “The Positive Place For Kids.” Learn more or donate at www.bgcpda.org.
