What We Do

  • Where are you located?

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Pee Dee Area has six Club sites in Florence, Darlington, and Williamsburg Counties. See our “Locations” page for addresses and contact information.

  • When are the Clubs open?

Hours of operation depend on the individual Club and the time of year. Our Clubs open every day after school, usually until 6:00 p.m. On non-school days and during the summer, Clubs open as early as 7:30 a.m., and remain open as late as 6:00 p.m. Call the Club you’re interested in for specific information.

  • What can I do at a Club?

Clubs offer a wide range of activities, from academic help and career development to leadership groups, arts & crafts, computer sessions, games, sports, and special field trips. Program areas include both individual and small group activities, and many can be done on an occasional, drop-in basis. For more information check out the “Core Programs” information on our “What We Do” page.

  • Will the Club help me do better in school?

During the school year, Clubs provide homework help and tutoring every day. Overall, nearly 1/3 of the members who participate in our “Power Hour” homework help and tutoring program are on their schools’ honor rolls.

  • Can I play sports?

Clubs sometimes compete in a basketball league during the winter. Some of our members learn how to play golf. Our Triple Play program encourages a variety of physical activities.

  • How much does it cost?

The annual Club membership fee is $10 per semester, usually three times per year. There are additional fees for summer programs and other special activities. Fee waivers are available; no child is turned away due to inability to pay.

  • Can I be a member at more than one Club?

Yes, but you will need to join at each site you plan to attend.

  • How do I register my child?

A parent or guardian should come in and fill out the forms to register during regular Club hours. There is no waiting period; the child may enjoy Club activities the same day. We encourage parents and guardians to stop by our Clubs and see our day-to-day operations.

  • Who can join a Boys & Girls Club?

Any child between the ages of 6 and 18 may join our Clubs. All children are welcome!

  • How many members do you have?

Our total Club membership is nearly 2,400. On average, over 750 members attend our six Clubs each day. We serve more than 4,000 youth each year.

  • Is transportation provided?

We do not provide transportation to our Clubs, but some school buses do stop at a nearby Club. In the Florence area, there is a private, fee-based service available. Call your school or the site you’re interested in for more specific information.

  • Can I get something to eat at a Boys & Girls Club?

We provide all members with a healthy meal every afternoon. During the summer, our full-day program includes a balanced breakfast and lunch. In addition, all sites have vending machine canteen areas where members can buy additional snacks.

  • How often do I have to come to the Club?

You may attend as often as you want- occasionally or every day. Our programs allow for participation whether you attend regularly or on a drop-in basis.
